ERIE, Pa. – The Mercyhurst softball team fell in both games in their doubleheader against Gannon in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference action on Monday. The Lakers fell in both games by a single run dropping the first contest 1-0, while falling 4-3 in game two. Mercyhurst drops to a 4-18 overall record while slipping to 1-3 in PSAC play. Individual game recaps below.
Game One: Gannon (1) vs Mercyhurst (0)-
Sarah Koscho and
Jolene Teller led the Lakers both going 1-for-3 in the batter's box.
After six and a half innings of scoreless play Gannon's Kristina Dematteis knocked in the winning run when she hit a RBI single to center field.
Tori Pierucci was the losing pitcher for the Lakers she threw for 6.2 innings and recorded nine strikeouts against 25 batters faced. Pierucci allowed one walk and was charged with one earned runs.
Madi Beining was the winning pitcher for Gannon.
Game Two: Gannon (4) vs Mercyhurst (3)-
Jenna Balducci led Mercyhurst at the plate batting 1-for-1.
Ellie Dougher went 3-for-4 while,
Jolene Teller went 2-for-3, and notched a RBI.
Lindsey Parese went 1-for-3 and batted two runners in.
Parese pushed the Lakers out to an early 2-0 lead when she smacked a two RBI double down the center of the field in the first inning scoring Dougher and Teller. Gannon would cut the Lakers' lead to 2-1 when Kaity Stocker hit a homerun.
After a scoreless second inning Teller knocked in the Lakers' final run in the top of the third. Teller hit a RBI double down center field scoring Koscho, pushing Mercyhurst to a 3-1 lead. Gannon would shorten this lead by earning their own run in the bottom of the third when Stocker hit a RBI double moving the Golden Knights to a 3-2 deficit.
Gannon recorded their final two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to close the game.
Heather Nye was the losing pitcher for Mercyhurst she pitched for two innings. Nye recorded a strikeout and scattered four hits, she was charged with two earned runs.
The Lakers will play next on Tuesday when they Travel to South Euclid, Ohio to take on Notre Dame (Oh.) in non-conference action.
