Spano Earns 600th Win As 11th-Ranked Baseball Takes Down NDC

SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio – Mercyhurst baseball head coach Joe Spano earned his 600th career win when the #11 Lakers took down Notre Dame College 15-7 on the road Tuesday afternoon.

With his 600th win, Spano now ranks T-41st in career wins as a head coach among all active Division II coaches. In his 19 seasons at the helm at Mercyhurst, Spano has a .627 career win percentage (600-of-957).

Mercyhurst (23-7) scored 15 runs in the win, its highest total since March 4 against Penn State Greater Allegheny (21). The Lakers bookended its runs in the early and late innings, with 8 runs scoring in innings 1-3 and the last seven runs coming in innings 6-9.

Mercyhurst had four different players drive in a team-high two runs, led by leadoff man Jimmy Standohar who had four hits, including a triple and double, and three runs scored to go with his two RBI.

Daniel Elliott had a two-RBI single in the top of the eighth inning and scored three runs while Alex O'Donnell also drove in two runs and scored twice in five at-bats. Parker Shannon brought home two runs.

Kenny Robinson joined Standohar in the multi-hit department with a pair of hits, including a double. He also drove in a run and scored three times.

Five different Lakers pitchers combined to complete the game, beginning with Andrew Ciolli who threw three frames while allowing just one earned run.

Ryan Smerkar and Josh Greggs followed Ciolli with two innings pitched each. Greggs earned the win (2-0) after he threw scoreless innings in the sixth and seventh.

Mercyhurst hosts Clarion this Friday, April 20, in a PSAC doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
