#22 Women's Lacrosse Holds Off Millersville

ERIE, Pa. -- Kristin Anderson scored four goals and Taylor Izzo totaled six points, finishing with two goals and four assists, as the 22nd-ranked Mercyhurst women's lacrosse team defeated Millersville, 14-9, in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference action on Saturday at Tullio Field.

Angelina Simon and Grace Lawson added two goals apiece while single goals were scored by Lacey Netti, Cassandra Ellis, Emma Hubert and Payton Cook. Simon, Netti and Hubert added two assists each.

Simon had a team-high seven draw controls while Kira Kolb and Anderson picked up four and three, respectively. Netti and Kolb picked up four groundballs each and Libby Montanye caused four turnovers.

In goal, Raelyn Tiberio earned the win with five saves.

With the contest tied at 5-all, Cook and Hubert scored 30 seconds apart in the first half, giving the Lakers a 7-5 lead. Mercyhurst was ahead the rest of the way.

The visiting Marauders (8-5, 3-5) pulled within one goal twice after that -- at 7-6 and 8-7 -- but a four-goal streak helped the host Lakers pull away. Izzo had a hand in each goal during that stretch as she scored two goals and assisted two others.

Sabrina Fusco was Millersville's top performer with three goals and one assist. Goalie Shannon Davis made 16 stops.

The Lakers outshot the Marauders, 42-22. They also held a 27-14 groundball advantage and 15-11 edge in draw controls.

Mercyhurst (8-4, 6-2) will play its next contest on Tuesday when it visits PSAC opponent Slippery Rock.
