SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -- The 22nd-ranked Mercyhurst women's lacrosse team defeated Slippery Rock, 9-5, in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference matchup on Tuesday.
Lacey Netti had a six-point game, finishing with three goals and three assists, while
Kristin Anderson tallied four goals for the Lakers (9-4, 7-2).
Grace Lawson and
Emma Hubert also scored for Mercyhurst.
Anderson controlled three draws and caused three turnovers.
Kira Kolb added two draw controls and two caused turnovers.
In goal,
Raelyn Tiberio totaled nine saves to earn the victory.
The two teams combined for only two goals in the first half and went intermission tied at 1-1. The teams also knotted at 2- and 3-all before Mercyhurst closed the game with a 6-2 stretch.
Three free-position goals -- two by Anderson and one by Netti -- gave the Lakers the lead for good.
For Slippery Rock (10-4, 6-4), Tia Torchia finished with three goals. Goalie Emily Bitka had 10 saves.
Groundballs were even among the squads, 22-22. SRU outshot MU, 25-21, and held a 9-7 edge in draw controls.
The Lakers will return to action on Saturday with a 12 p.m. matchup at East Stroudsburg.
