CLAREMONT, Fl. – The Mercyhurst softball team fell in back-to-back games on Wednesday afternoon against Minnesota Duluth, and Saint Anselm in nonconference action. The Lakers lost to Minnesota Duluth by a score of 11-1 in five innings before getting snubbed 3-1 by Saint Anselm, individual game recaps below.
MINNESOTA DULUTH 11 vs MERCYHUSRT 1 (Five Innings):
Ellie Dougher led the Lakers offense as she hit 1.000 going 3-for-3.
Meredith Grimes recorded a 1-for-2 go in the batter's box for Mercyhurst.
The Lakers trailed 6-0 after the end of the first inning, not denting the Duluth lead until the third inning.
Egelston scored the sole Laker run when she stole home in the top of the third. Egelston was able to reach home plate after a throwing error by Duluth's second basemen, bringing the Lakers to a 3-1 deficit.
A five run inning from Duluth closed out scoring for the game. Duluth posted a three run homer, and a two RBI single made up the final runs of the game.
Sarah Eschleman was the losing pitcher, she was charged with five earned runs, against the five hits.
Breanna Swint was the winning pitcher she scattered four hits, gave up two blocks and had no earned runs charged to her.
SAINT ANSELM 3 vs MERCYHURST 1:
Jolene Teller went 1-for-1 leading the Lakers batting percentage and she notched the sole RBI of the game.
Emma LeGendre went 1-for-2 and both Dougher as well as
Sarah Koscho went 1-for-3.
The Lakers trailed 2-0 through the first inning of play, the action would stall at 2-0 until the seventh inning in which each team would score a run.
Saint Anselm stretched their lead to 3-0 when
Tori Pierucci walked a batter with the bases loaded.
Jolene Teller would cut the Saint Anselm lead to 3-1 in their final inning of play, when she smacked a RBI single down the right field line, driving in Koscho.
Pierucci was the losing pitcher, she went the distance throwing for all seven innings, scattering seven hits, allowing seven walks, and was charged with three earned runs.
Morgan Perry was the winning pitcher she threw for seven innings, scattered four hits and allowed two walks, she was charged with one earned run.
The Lakers will play again tomorrow at Wayne State and Winona at 9:00 am and 11:30 am respectively.
