Softball Downed In First Two Days Of Spring Games

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 | Box Score 3 | Box Score 4 CLERMONT, Fl. – The Mercyhurst softball team is still in the hunt for their first win of the season through the first two days of competition in their spring games series. The Lakers have dropped contests to  West Virginia Wesleyan, Cedarville on Saturday morning. While falling to Hillsdale, and Upper Iowa on Sunday. Individual game recaps below:
 
WEST VIRGINIA WESLYEAN 3 vs MERCYHURT 1:
The Lakers were led by Emma LeGendre who went 2-for-2. Lindsay Peraese went 2-for-3 and batted in the Lakers sole run of the game in the fifth inning.
 
The Lakers trailed 1-0 after the first inning when West Virginia Wesleyan notched a score during their first at bat. West Virginia Wesleyan extended their lead to 2-1 in the fifth, and closed out scoring in the sixth to tend the game 3-1.
 
The Lakers had a man on second and third at the bottom of the seventh but were unable to punch in the runs needed to knot the action.
 
CEDARVILLE 4 VS MERCYHURST 2:
Mercyhurst was led by Jolene Teller who went 2-for-3  and knocked in the Lakers first run in the sixth inning pushing the Lakers to a 4-1 deficient. Jacqueline Gardner went 1-for-3.
 
Gardner earned the other run for the Lakers as she notched a triple, then reach home on an error.
 
Cedarville had an explosive first inning earning all four of their runs in their first five at bats.  
 
HILLSDALE 1 VS MERCYHURST 0:
The Lakers fell 1-0 to Hillsdale on Sunday. The Chargers collected their only run in the third, and would never trail.
 
The Lakers were unable to secure a tying run despite having Megan Christner on second in the sixth inning.
 
UPPER IOWA 3 VS MERCYHURST 2 (Nine Innings):
The Lakers lost a 3-2 game to Upper Iowa in extra innings on Sunday morning. Cassandra Egelston went 2-for-5.
 
Jamie Ward scored the game's opening run when she was pushed in after LeGendre was hit by a pitch moving the Lakers to a 1-0 lead. Three runs scored by both teams would knot the action at 2-2 through the end of the sixth.
 
The action was tied at 2-2 until the ninth inning when Upper Iowa would punch in the winning run.
 
The Lakers will play tomorrow against Bentley and Findlay at 9 and 11:30 am respectively.
