Softball Splits At Seton Hill

GREENSBURG, Pa. -- The Mercyhurst softball team split their doubleheader against Seton Hill in their opening Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference games. The Lakers claimed the first game 1-0, before falling in the second contest 1-0. Mercyhurst finished the contests with a 4-16 record, and ended with a 1-1 PSAC record. 

GAME ONE: Seton Hill 0 vs MERCYHURST 1 (Eight Innings)
Sarah Koscho knocked in the winning run for Mercyhurst as she went 1-for-4 in the batters box. Ellie Dougher and Lindsey Parese led the Lakers during the first game both going 1-for-2, and Cassandra Egelston both went 1-for-4.  
After a scoreless seven innings the Lakers entered extra innings against the Griffins. Egelston was placed on second to start the top of the eighth inning. Dougher advanced Egelston to third on a sacrifice bunt, setting the stage for Koscho's game winning RBI.

Tori Pierucci was the winning pitcher for the contest as she went the distance and threw for all eight innings for the Lakers. Pierucci recorded struck out ten of 28 batters faced, she scattered four hits and allowed one walk. 

GAME TWO: SETON HILL 1 vs MERCYHURST 0 (Eight Innings) 
Egelston led the Lakers in the second game as she went 2-for-4, Taylor Fry went 1-for-3. 

The Lakers fell 0-1 when Christiana Skrabak hit a RBI single scoring Jenna Osikowicz. The Lakers were able to place the tying run on second but were not able to drive it in during their final at bats.

Pierucci was the losing pitcher for the contest as she threw for six innings in the second game of the double header as well. Pierucci recorded three strikeouts, allowed no walks, and was charged with one earned run against 22 batters.

The Lakers will return to action next on Monday when they play cross town rival Gannon at 1 and 3 pm on the campus of Gannon.
