Box Score PAINESVILLE Ohio. – The Mercyhurst softball team split in their non-conference doubleheader against Lake Erie College on Monday. The Lakers fell 7-1 in the opening game before claiming he second game 9-7. Moving to a 3-15 record, individual game recaps below.
GAME ONE: Mercyhurst (1) Lake Erie College (7)
Sarah Koscho notched the Lakers sole RBI when she went 1-for-3 at the plate.
Ellie Dougher and
Emma LeGendre also went 1-for-3.
Koscho drove in
Ellie Dougher on a RBI single to the right side pushing the Lakers to their only lead of the game going up 1-0.
Lake Erie claimed a 4-1 lead after the first, and would never trail, tacking on their final three runs in the sixth inning.
Tori Pierucci was the losing pitcher for the Lakers she threw for 5.1 innings giving up eight hits against 31 batters faced, she was charged with five earned runs. Pierucci recorded two strikeouts and allowed one walk.
Allyson Deemer was the winning pitcher for the contest she scattered three hits over seven innings pitched.
GAME TWO: Mercyhurst (9) Lake Erie College (7)
Jenna Balducci led the Lakers in the batter's box going 3-for-4 and recorded a RBI.
Cassandra Egelston and
Sarah Koscho both went 2-for-5 and each recorded a pair of RBIs. Arianna Brone went 1-for-2. LeGendre, and
Jamie Ward each recoded a RBI a piece.
After a scoreless two innings of play Balducci opened score in the third inning driving in Koscho on a RBI single down the right field line, pushing the Lakers to a 1-0 lead. Dougher would drive the Lakers to a 2-0 lead after reaching on a passed ball.
Lake Erie would shorten the Lakers lead to 2-1 through the bottom of the third.
The Lakers responded by scoring four runs of their own during the fourth inning. Egelston notched her first RBI driving in
Taylor Fry. Egelston scored the next run for the Lakers when she stole home, raising Mercyhurst to a 4-1 lead. Koscho then drove in Christner on a bunt. Ward grounded out to the second basemen was able to score Koscho earning the Lakers a 6-1 lead.
Lake Erie pushed in a pair of runs in the bottom of through fourth to shrink the Lakers lead to 6-3.
Egelston notched her second RBI of the game during the fifth inning when she drove in Fry on a single to center field. Koscho stretched the Lakers to a 8-4 lead when she smacked a single to down second base scoring Egelston.
Lake Erie notched two runs in the bottom of the fifth shortening the Mercyhurst lead to 8-6.
Brone drove in the final run for Mercyhurst when she drove in Balducci on a sacrifice bunt, taking the Lakers to a 9-6 lead.
Lake Erie scored a run in the bottom of the sixth and seventh to bring the score to its final.
Sarah Eschleman was the winning pitcher for the Lakers moving to a 1-6 record she threw for four innings scattering eight hits, and was charged with four earned runs . Eschleman recorded a pair of strikeouts and allowed no walks against 21 batters faced.
The Lakers will play again next on Thursday when they travel to take on cross town rival Gannon at 2:30 and 4:30 pm.
