Lawson's Late Goal Lifts #22 Women's Lax Over Unbeaten #16 IUP

ERIE, Pa. -- Grace Lawson scored the game-winning goal with 28 seconds left in regulation as the 22nd-ranked Mercyhurst women's lacrosse team earned a 12-11 victory over 16th-ranked Indiana (Pa.) during Tuesday's Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference contest at Tullio Field.

Lawson, Kristin Anderson and Angelina Simon had three goals each for the Lakers (3-2, 2-0), who took an early 7-1 lead before the visiting Crimson Hawks slowly chipped away to tie the game at 11-11.

Olivia Africa, Lacey Netti and Taylor Izzo also had goals for Mercyhurst.

Izzo made three assists, including an impressive helper on Lawson's game-winner. Anderson had two assists and Netti and Torie Sullivan dished one helper each.

Anderson also compiled five draw controls, four groundballs and three caused turnovers.

Kira Kolb led the Laker defense with five GBs and four CTs. She also had three draw controls.

Diana Schmitt picked up four groundballs.

In goal, Raelyn Tiberio totaled seven saves and earned the win.

For IUP (4-1, 1-1), Riley Greenleaf led the way with five goals while Adriana Greco totaled three goals and one assist. Katie Martyn picked up seven draws.

Crimson Hawk goalkeeper Lauren Piecknick totaled seven saves.

Mercyhurst jumped ahead to a 7-1 lead in the first half, but a late five-goal run by the Hawks helped the visitors pull into an 11-all tie with 2:06 to go. That set the stage for Lawson's heroics.

The Lakers will return to action on Saturday with a 12 p.m. home PSAC contest against Shippensburg.
