Anderson, Izzo Lead #21 Women's Lax Charge Past Bloomsburg

BLOOMSBURG, Pa. -- Kristin Anderson scored six goals and Taylor Izzo finished with eight points, totaling two goals and six assists, as the 21st-ranked Mercyhurst women's lacrosse team won its Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference opener against Bloomsburg, 14-9, on Saturday.

Anderson also had seven draw controls and three caused turnovers for the Lakers (2-2, 1-0), who trailed 6-4 before closing the game on a 10-3 run.

Grace Lawson tacked on three goals, Angelina Simon scored twice and Torie Sullivan had a goal. Simon and Lacey Netti made two assists each for Mercyhurst.

Simon also had five groundballs and Sullivan compiled three groundballs and two caused turnovers. Kira Kolb added three GBs and three CTs to the defensive effort while Dianna Schmitt caused four turnovers.

Mercyhurst goalie Raelyn Tiberio earned the win in net, recording 11 saves.

Tracy Rusen was Bloomsburg's leading goal-scorer with three. Cailyn Gormley added one goal and two assists while Taylor Turner finished with one goal and three assists. Angela DiPasquale had 10 saves in goal for the Huskies (2-2, 0-1).

The teams were knotted at 4-all through one half before the host Huskies pushed their way to a 6-4 lead in the second.

The Lakers responded decisively, scoring 10 of the game's final 13 goals. Anderson had five goals during the run; Izzo had five assists. The two combined on three different goals.

Bloomsburg outshot Mercyhurst, 32-29, and held a 31-29 groundball advantage, but the Lakers' performance off the draw was strong. Mercyhurst was 17-8 in draw controls.
