Malcolm Walters had 12 points, leading a quartet of Mercyhurst scorers in double-figures, during the Laker men's basketball team's 66-56 loss to 23rd-ranked Shippensburg on Saturday at the Mercyhurst Athletic Center.
Patrick Smith and Stephen Spurlock Jr. had 11 points apiece while
Derrick Ellis Jr. put in 10. Smith also grabbed eight rebounds.
Shippensburg was led by two players who had double-doubles. John Castello finished with 16 points and 10 rebounds while Dustin Sleva came through with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Justin McCarthur added 11 points.
The visiting Raiders (17-3, 13-2) went on a 17-5 run to start the second half after the teams went into intermission tied 34-34. After going on its run, Shippensburg led the rest of the way.
Mercyhurst won the rebound battle, 33-28, but struggled from the field, making 20 of 56 (35.7 percent). The Lakers were better from three-point range, going 6-for-13 (46.2).
The Lakers will return to action on Wednesday with a 7:30 p.m. home PSAC game against Slippery Rock.
