Lakers Finish Regular Season With Second-Straight Shutout

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Mercyhurst women's ice hockey team put together its second-straight dominant performance to complete the 2018 regular season with another 3-0 shutout of RIT at Gene Polisseni Center Saturday afternoon.

Maggie Knott had a goal and assist while Summer-Rae Dobson and Brooke Hartwick also picked up scores. Kennedy Blair recorded her second-straight shutout with 19 saves and now has five shutouts this season.

Mercyhurst (16-14-3) finishes its College Hockey America schedule with a 13-4-3 record and has clinched a bye in the CHA Tournament set for March 1-3 at the Harborcenter in Buffalo, N.Y. RIT (4-27-3) ends the season 1-19 in the CHA.

The Lakers tallied one goal and outshot the Tigers by at least seven in each period. Knott was first on the board at 15:43 in the first when she scored her 12th of the season on a backhand shot. Michele Robillard and K.K. Theissen assisted her on the goal.

Mercyhurst extend its lead 90 seconds into the second period when Dobson scored after a nice passing sequence with Vilma Tanskanen and Sarah Hine. The goal was her ninth of her freshman season.

Brooke Hartwick completed the game's scoring with her 13th of the season with Knott earning the helper. Hartwick's wrist shot from the left circle clanged off the pipe and in to match her 2017 season goal total.

Mercyhurst now awaits the results of the two other CHA games on Saturday to find out what its final seeding will be for the CHA Tournament.

The CHA Banquet and Awards Ceremony is next Wednesday, Feb. 28th. Mercyhurst's first game in the tournament will be in the semifinals on Friday at a time and against an opponent yet to be determined.

UPDATE: Robert Morris' win over Syracuse on Saturday clinches the number-one seed for the Colonials and puts Mercyhurst in second place in the overall standings. The Lakers will play the highest seeded team remaining in the semifinals at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, March 2.
