EDINBORO, Pa. -- Lorenzo Collier poured in a career-high of 39 points, including 30 during the second half, as the Mercyhurst men's basketball team finished its regular season with a 92-84 victory over Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference opponent Edinboro on Saturday.
Collier went 11 of 18 from the field, including 3 of 7 from three-point range. He did some damage at the free-throw line, as well, making all 14 of his attempts from the stripe.
Patrick Smith chipped in 19 points for the Lakers (13-13, 10-12), whose coach,
Gary Manchel, earned his 250th win during his Mercyhurst tenure.
Malcolm Walters added 16 points to the Mercyhurst effort and Derrick Ellis Jr. dished six assists.
For Edinboro (16-10, 3-9), Keshawn Liggins compiled a double-double worth 30 points and 10 rebounds. Jaymon Mason had 25 points.
The Lakers jumped out to a 7-0 lead and pushed the gap to 15-5 before the host Fighting Scots responded with a nine-point run.
Smith, who had a 3-pointer during MU's earliest run, tacked on three 3s to fuel a Laker 9-0 run that lifted the visitors to a 24-14 lead.
Mercyhurst carried a 43-35 into halftime before Edinboro chipped the deficit to four points at 61-57 in the second half. At that point, Mercyhurst enjoyed another 9-0 run and held a comfortable lead the rest of the way.
The Lakers were strong from the field, making 31 of 56 (55.4 percent). They hit 12 of 22 shots from beyond the arc (54.5) and finished 18 of 22 from the free-throw line (81.8). Edinboro was 27 of 61 (44.3), 11 of 27 (40.7) and 19 of 20 (95.0), respectively.
Mercyhurst will enter the PSAC Tournament as the sixth seed and is set for a visit to three-seed Slippery Rock on Monday. Tip-off will occur at 7 p.m.
