ERIE, Pa. -- The Mercyhurst men's basketball team will host Pittsburgh-Johnstown for a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference contest on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
The Lakers (12-12, 9-11) lost in their last outing, dropping a 58-50 decision to Gannon on Saturday. Mercyhurst has clinched a spot in the PSAC Tournament. It will be the sixth seed in the PSAC West Division.
UPJ (14-11, 12-9) had a four-game winning streak snapped in its last outing, when it fell to Slippery Roc, 89-63. The Mountain Cats are the fifth seed in the PSAC West Division.
The teams met early this season as UPJ took a 67-64 decision in Johnstown. The Lakers led nearly the entire contest before the host Mountain Cats pushed ahead during the final two minutes.
Lorenzo Collier led Mercyhurst with 24 points while
Patrick Smith tallied a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds.
Malcolm Walters scored 12 points.
UPJ had four scorers in double-figures, including leader Josh Wise, who put in 23 points. Isaac Vescovi finished with 15 points and nine rebounds, Levi Masua scored 12 points and Dale Clancy had 10 points.
In 2017-18, the Lakers have been led by Collier and Walters, who are averaging 15.6 and 14.0 points per game, respectively. Collier ranks ninth in the PSAC in 3-pointers per game (2.5). Walters also averages 4.3 rebounds and 2.2 assists.
Smith has seven double-doubles in 2017-18 and averages 8.6 points and 8.3 rebounds. He ranks seventh in the PSAC in boards.
Ellis leads MU in assists with 3.4 per game while averaging 7.1 points and 1.9 steals. He is sixth in the PSAC in steals.
Mercyhurst ranks second in the PSAC in defense, allowing 64.7 per game.
