Box Score 2 MYRTLE BEACH, Sc—The Mercyhurst softball team lost their opening two game against South New Hampshire 7-6 (eight innings) and Le Moyne 9-0, the Lakers fall to a 0-2 overall record, individual game recaps below.
Southern New Hampshire-7 Mercyhust-6 (8 Inn.)
The Lakers fell in extra innings to Southern New Hampshire, dropping their season opening game 7-6.
Mercyhurst (0-2) was led by
Lindsey Parese who went two-for-three, followed by
Cassandra Egelston who went two-for-four.
Egelston hit a homerun in her first at bat of the season pushing the Lakers to a 1-0 lead.
Lindsey Parese would extend the Lakers lead to 2-0 at the end of the first inning batting in
Sarah Koscho. Mercyhurst would extend their lead by as much as 3-0 through the top of the third inning, before Southern New Hampshire scored their first run. After a scoreless fourth inning the Lakers produced a single run in the fifth after Koscho batted in
Natalie Graff. SNH posted three runs in the fifth to knot the action 4-4 which would carry the teams into extra innings.
During the eighth inning the Lakers posted two runs off three hits. While SNH recorded three runs off of three hits.
Le Moyne-9 Mercyhust-0 (5 Inn.)
Koscho led the Lakers, going one-for-two at the plate, and a stolen base.
Megan Christner also contributed a stolen base.
Le Moyne kicked off the first inning with four runs, they picked up three runs in the fifth inning and earned a solo run in both the second and fourth inning.
Sarah Eschleman pitched one inning she gave up four earned runs on four hits and allowed two walks. Jacquline Gardner threw for the three remaining inning she gave up five earned runs on seven hits and allowed one walk.
The Lakers will play again tomorrow at 10 am against West Chester and at 2 pm against Kutztown.
