Norris Doubles, Shabazz Scores 10 In Women's Hoops Loss At #21 California (Pa.)

CALIFORNIA, Pa. -- Emilee Norris recorded her fifth double-double of the season, finishing with 10 points and 10 rebounds, while Jamaya Shabazz also scored 10 points during the Mercyhurst women's basketball team's 60-50 loss to 21st-ranked California (Pa.) during Wednesday's Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference contest.

Shabazz also had seven rebounds for the Lakers (9-16, 7-12), who held a three-point lead in the first half before going into halftime with a 26-25 advantage.

The host Vulcans (21-4, 16-3) took over in the third quarter, outscoring Mercyhurst 19-9 during the period. Cal's leading scorer Shatara Parsons scored 11 of her 23 points during the third.

California led 44-35 through three quarters and led eight-or-more points the rest of the way. Its largest margin was 13.

The Lakers outrebounded Cal, 34-30, but struggled mightily toward 28 turnovers. The Vulcans scored 28 of their points off turnovers.

Mercyhurst shot 17 of 43 from the field (39.5 percent), including 8 of 20 from three-point range (40.0). The Lakers had a strong performance from the free-throw line, making 13 of 16 (81.3).

MU will return to action on Saturday when cross-town rival Gannon visits the Mercyhurst Athletic Center for the latest edition of the Porreco Pride of Erie series. Tip-off is slated for 1 p.m.
