GREENSBURG, Pa. --
Lorenzo Collier scored 27 points and
Derrick Ellis Jr. added 18 points as the Mercyhurst men's basketball team overcame an early deficit and defeated Seton Hill, 77-66, in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference matchup on Saturday.
Collier buried seven 3-pointers en route to his team-high output. Ellis was perfect from the field, going 6 of 6 including 3 of 3 from three-point range. Ellis also had six steals and three assists.
Patrick Smith added eight rebounds and five assists the the Laker effort.
Trevor Blondin led Seton Hill with 22 points, five steals and four assists. Spencer Casson totaled a double-double worth 14 points and 15 rebounds. Nathan Davis scored 18 points.
The host Griffins (8-16, 5-14) led 28-17 in the first half before Mercyhurst charged back to close its deficit to 38-35 at halftime. During the Lakers' 18-10 stretch, Collier had five points and
Edvaldo Ferreira chipped in four.
The visitors carried that momentum into the second half, opening the period with a 16-3 run. Ellis drained a pair of treys before Collier hit one of his own. Walters layed in a couple of two-pointers and then Smith capped the charge with a three-pointer.
Mercyhurst (12-10, 9-9) widened the gap to 70-54 -- its largest lead -- before Seton Hill closed the margin back to nine, but that was the closest the Griffins got.
The Lakers went 28 of 57 from the field (49.1 percent), including a blistering 13 of 24 from three-point land (54.2). SHU was 22 of 49 (44.9) and 6 of 18 (33.3), respectively.
MU held a 32-28 advantage in rebounds.
The Lakers will return to action on Wednesday when they visit California (Pa.) on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
