ERIE, Pa. -- Mercyhurst goaltender
Garrett Metcalf made 30 saves and recorded his first collegiate shutout as the Laker men's ice hockey team defeated Sacred Heart, 3-0, to complete a two-game Atlantic Hockey series sweep on Saturday.
James Anderson scored two goals -- once on the power play and once into an empty net as time expired.
Tommaso Bucci also had an empty-netter.
Josh McDougall had two assists while single assists were credited to
Michael Bevilacqua,
Steven Ipri and
Matthew Whittaker.
Anderson put the Lakers ahead with his power-play tally in the second period, getting help from McDougall and Ipri.
Bucci extended the lead to 2-0 before Anderson beat the buzzer for the third Laker goal.
Mercyhurst went 1-for-3 on the power play while the host Pioneers finished 0-for-3.
SHU goalie Josh Benson had 27 saves.
The Lakers will be in action next on Nov. 23-24 when they play a home-and-home AHA series with Robert Morris. The Lakers will be at home on the 24th.
