MANSFIELD, Pa. -- The Mercyhurst field hockey team lost its PSAC opener to Mansfield, 5-0, on Wednesday.
Mansfield jumped ahead with two goals late in the first half and led the rest of the way.
Dana Evans was the leading goal-scorer for the hosts, scoring two goals.
Two Laker goalies --
Gabriella Amico and
Victoria Triaga -- recorded four saves each.
Mansfield's goalies, Brittany Ryan (11) and Misty Vanhorn (4), combined for 15 saves and the shutout.
Mansfield (5-4, 1-0) outshot the Lakers, 24-20, while Mercyhurst held a 14-9 edge in corners.
Mercyhurst (1-7, 0-1) will return to competition on Saturday with a 4:30 p.m. home contest against East Stroudsburg.
