Women's Ice Hockey Opens CHA Play at Syracuse

The Mercyhurst women's ice hockey team travels to Syracuse N.Y. to open up its regular season College Hockey America Conference play on Oct. 12-13 against the Orange. Puck drops at 7 p.m. on Friday and 3 p.m. on Saturday.
 
Last Time Out
Mercyhurst hosted #2 Wisconsin on Oct. 28-29 while falling 6-1 and 5-3.
 
Emma Nuutinen and Emily Pinto each recorded a goal and an assist for the Lakers during the weekend series. Summer-Rae Dobson and Alexa Vasko also scored one goal apiece. Single assists were credited to Samantha Fieseler, Alexane Rheaume, Rachel Marmen, K.K Thiessen, Sarah Hine and Sam Isbell.
 
Kennedy Blair made 29 saves in net on Friday before Leah Klassen stopped 35 shots on Saturday.
 
Previous Matchup
Mercyhurst and Syracuse met five times last season including a CHA Semifinals matchup. Mercyhurst held a 4-1-0 advantage.
 
During the regular season the Lakers swept the Orange at the Mercyhurst Ice Center winning 4-1 and 2-1 in overtime. The two teams then split the weekend series at Syracuse with a 4-1 Mercyhurst loss and 4-0 win.
 
They met again in the Semifinals of the CHA Tournament where the Lakers came out on top 3-2 in overtime.
 
For Mercyhurst, Vilma Tanskanen recorded four goals and five assists while Emma Nuutinen also tallied four goals. Maggie Knott added one goal and two assists while Dobson scored one goal and one assist Céline Frappierhad one goal. Molly Blasen picked up four assists, Hine had three assists, and Marmen tallied two assists. Single assists were credited to Michele Robillard, Fieseler and Isbell.
 
In net, Blair made a total of 84 saves and earned one shutout while going 4-0-0. Sarah McDonnell made 13 saves for the Lakers with a 0-1-0 record.
 
For Syracuse, Victoria Klimek recorded two goals. Savannah Rennie, Brooke Avery and Emma Polaski each tallied one goal, Rennie also had an assist. Jessica Digirolamo and Lindsay Eastwood picked up two assists while Allie Munroe added one assist.
 
All-Time Series
Mercyhurst holds a 38-6-3 all-time series advantage over Syracuse, including a 95-52 edge in goals scored.
 
Scouting Syracuse
Syracuse has a 0-1-0 current record.
 
The Orange are coming off of a 5-1 loss to #6 Boston College. Avery scored the lone goal for Syracuse while Abby Moloughney and Digirolamo added assists.
 
In net, Maddi Welch made 27 saves for the Orange.
 
Mercyhurst Record
The Lakers have a 0-4-0 record.
 
Laker Leaders
Nuutinen and Pinto lead the Laker roster with two goals and one assist each. Dobson and Vasko both have one goal.

Syracuse has added five freshmen in its roster including Shelby Calof, Lauren Bellefontaine, Mary Corby, Marielle McHale and Moloughney.
