The Mercyhurst women's basketball team will compete in the first inaugural women's Porreco Pride of Erie Cup against Gannon in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference action on Wednesday. For the past two seasons the Porreco Pride of Erie Cup just included to the men's contest. Jason Porreco expanded the festivities to include the women's contest as well, after seeing such success with the previous Porreco Pride of Erie Cup events.
 
Mercyhurst (6-10, 4-6 PSAC) are currently in a two game rut after dropping contests to Seton Hill (68-83), and Pittsburgh-Johnstown (54-63). Gannon (8-8, 5-5 PSAC) earned a victory in their last competition defeating Clarion (50-46). Gannon leads the all-time series between the two teams 57-30, claiming an 18-26 record when playing at home. Mercyhurst claimed the last three contests between the two teams, including a sweep in the 2016-17 season.
 
Mercyhurst currently sits eighth in the PSAC West, two places behind sixth ranked Gannon.
 
Amber Renz leads the Lakers in points per game with 14.8, she also adds 4.5 rebounds per game. Maria Lapertosa contributes 13.6 points per game, she adds 5.4 rebounds per game. Vivian Allison rounds out the top three scorers with 6.1 points per game.
 
Emilee Norris leads rebounds with 6.1 per game, she also leads blocks with 27 on the season. Emily Shopene leads both assists and steals with 56 and 14 respectively.
 
The Golden Knights have three players averaging in double-digits led by Maggie Mitchell who contribute 16.6 points per game. Mitchell also leads assists on the team with 59 on the season. Chelsea Rourke adds 12.5 points per game she leads steals with 20. Nicole LaCava records 11.1 points per game, she leads rounds with 5.6 per game.
