Lakers Draw At Clarion

CLARION, Pa. -- The Mercyhurst women's soccer tied Clarion 1-1 on the road Wednesday night. It was the second time in the last three seasons the Lakers (0-1-1) went to overtime against the Golden Eagles (1-1-1).

The first half did not see a goal for either side, but the Lakers held a 7-1 advantage in shot attempts in the half. Clarion keeper Krista Mossi made five of her 11 saves in the first half.

Clarion scored the first goal of the game on only its second shot. Aaliyah Odom put a header into the net off a corner kick in the 49th minute to give the Golden Eagles the advantage.

The Lakers responded on their next shot less than a minute to tie the game at one. Kenzie Grenell scored from outside the box in the 50th minute for her first collegiate goal to knot the game at one apiece.

Mercyhurst ended up outshooting Clarion 19-7 in regulation, including 11 shots on goal. The Lakers had one of their best scoring chances in the first overtime when Grenell had an opportunity from just inside the box. Her shot grazed off Mossi's fingertips and hit the goal post to stay out of the net.

The Lakers head back home to host Ohio Valley on September 9 beginning at 4 p.m.
