Volleyball Hosts Lock Haven And Pitt-Johnstown

The Mercyhurst volleyball team will compete in two Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) games when they host Lock Haven (8-6, 1-1 PSAC), and Pitt-Johnstown (12-3, 2-0 PSAC) this weekend. The Lakers will square off against Lock Haven on Friday night at 7 pm, and will take on Pitt-Johnstown Saturday afternoon at 4 pm. These games will be the first PSAC games that the Lakers will host in the 2017 season.  

The Lakers are led by junior Shelby Chesko who has recorded 135 kills, 28 block assists, four single blocks and one ace. Alyssa Zirnheld is the second highest scoring player she has posted 109 kills, 14 block assists, four solo blocks, and nine aces on the season. Katie Baird rounds out the top three offensive players, she has contributed 107 kills, five block assists, and 15 aces. Makayla Mollé, has been the primary setter for Mercyhurst posting 279 assists. Hannah Vuylsteke has recorded the most digs on the team with 186. Alyssa Kling leads the Lakers in blocks having six solo blocks and 32 block assists. 

Lock Haven Friday 7 pm:
Lock Haven is led by Breanna McDonald, who has posted 144 kills, and ten aces on the season. Veronica Morrison who has 129 kills, and Gabrielle Stick who posted 118 kills. Chloe Williams leads blocks with 13 solo blocks, and 33 block assists.  Mercyhurst, swept Lockhaven in the 2016 season in the only matchup between the two programs.

Pittsburgh Johnstown Saturday 3 pm:

Pittsburgh Johnstown has three athletes who have broken the 100 kill threshold and are led by Marissa Erminio who has posted 147 kills, and six service aces on the season. Cambia Wierman has contributed 113 kills and posted 13 aces, while Maura Brehl has posted 110 kills. Caitlin Vrabel leads blocks with four solo blocks and 35 block assists. Pittsburgh Johnstown defeated the Lakers 3-0 in the 2016 season.
