Box Score MADISON, Wisc. – The Mercyhurst women's ice hockey team could not find the back of the net in its 2017-18 season opener, losing 4-0 to second-ranked Wisconsin at LaBahn Arena Thursday night.
The Lakers (0-1) garnered 21 shot attempts for the game compared to the Badgers' (3-0) 31.
Maggie Knott,
Brooke Hartwick Emma Nuutinen, and
Summer-Rae Dobson led the Lakers with three shots on goal each. Hartwick led the team with seven shot attempts with Dobson close behind at six.
Starting goaltender
Kennedy Blair stopped 27 of 31 shots in her Laker debut. The Lakers held the Badgers to 1-of-6 on the power play.
Late in a back-and-forth first period, Wisconsin's Caitlin Schnieder scored the game's first goal on a breakaway at 17:13.
The Badgers pulled away with two goals less than a minute apart in the middle of the second period by Mikaela Gardner and Sophia Shaver to take a three-goal lead. They added one more goal courtesy of Claudia Kepler midway through the third period.
Wisconsin's Abby Roque led all players with three assists. Grace Bowlby added two more for the Badgers.
Mercyhurst looks to bounce back tomorrow taking on the Badgers at 8:07 ET.
