THE GAME
The Mercyhurst football team will host cross-town rival Gannon as the Erie rivals face off for the Niagara Cup. The contest, a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference West Division game, will kick off at 1:07 p.m.
The Lakers are coming off a 21-18 road win over Clarion in its PSAC West opener while the Golden Knights are one week removed from a 49-45 home loss to then-21st-ranked Slippery Rock.
THE COACHES
Marty Schaetzle (Bucknell '83) is in his 16th season as head coach for Mercyhurst. He owns a 79-90 record. He is a three-time PSAC West Coach of the Year (2008, 2010, 2014) and has coached the Lakers to two PSAC West regular-season championships (2010, 2012) and one PSAC overall title (2010). Prior to coaching at Mercyhurst, Schaetzle has held assistant coach positions at Bucknell, Shippensburg, Northern Arizona, Sonoma State, Arizona and Albany.
Brad Rzyczycki (Mercyhurst '95) is in his sixth year as head coach for Gannon. He has a 30-29 record. He was previously an assistant with Mercyhurst, Kentucky Wesleyan and Saginaw Valley State.

NEXT UP
The Lakers will play its second straight home game as Slippery Rock visits Tullio Field on Saturday, Oct. 7. Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m.
SRU is currently 4-0 on the season with a 1-0 mark in PSAC West competition. The Rock, which is No. 18 in NCAA Division II, is one of three ranked teams in the division; the others are fourth-ranked Indiana and fifth-ranked California. All three teams have 4-0, 1-0, records. SRU and California meet at SRU on Saturday.
