ERIE, Pa. -- Head coach
Michael Sisti of the Mercyhurst women's ice hockey team has announced team captains for the 2017-18 season on Wednesday afternoon. Senior forward
Jennifer MacAskill was named captain for the Lakers, while senior forward
Brooke Hartwick, senior defenseman
Callie Paddock, and junior defenseman
Morgan Stacey were named alternate captains.
MacAskill enters her fourth season as a Laker with 102 games played. She has scored 11 goals and 18 assists for a total of 29 points for her career. MacAskill set career highs in her junior season a year ago with five goals and ten assists. She also scored two power play goals, one shorthanded marker, and one game-winning goal. MacAskill has also been one of Mercyhurst's top penalty-killing forwards.
Hartwick has 105 games played as a Laker and returns as the Lakers top scorer from a season ago. She scored 16 goals and 18 assists for a team-high 38 points. Hartwick also tallied six power play goals in 2016-17. For her career, Hartwick has netted 28 goals and added 28 assists and is a plus-15. She has scored nine power play goals and three game-winning goals over the past three seasons.
Paddock has played 82 games as a Laker blue-liner. She has scored four goals in Mercyhurst career, including three last season. Paddock holds a career plus-four rating and has blocked 59 totals shots. She tied a career high with 35 games played in her junior season and earned more ice time throughout the season.
Stacey enters her junior season with 38 games played under her belt. An assistant captain a season ago, Stacey set career highs with six points and 63 blocked shots. She has tallied 11 assists, a plus-six rating, 107 blocked shots and a reputation as one of the steadiest blue-liners, especially on the penalty kill, in College Hockey America.
The Lakers completed last season with a 15-18-2 overall record, including an 11-8-1 CHA record. Mercyhurst looks to return to lofty expectations in the conference, which included 14-straight CHA regular season titles before last season. The Lakers enjoyed wins against some top-ranked opponents last season. That list included 2016-17 NCAA tournament qualifier St. Lawrence at D1 in D.C., the first ever women's collegiate hockey games played in the Washington D.C. metropolitan area. Mercyhurst also defeated Quinnipiac in October of 2016.
Mercyhurst gets the 2017-18 season started on the road in Madison, Wisconsin against 2016-17 national runner-up Wisconsin Sept 28-29. The Lakers' first home games will be against St. Lawrence on October 6-7.
