Men's Lacrosse Falls in G-MAC Championship Game to Seton Hill

ERIE, Pa. -- The Mercyhurst men's lacrosse team fell to Seton Hill, 15-10, in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Tournament final on Saturday at Tullio Field.

Kurtis Woodland scored five goals to lead the Mercyhurst attack, but an early deficit grew too large for the Lakers to completely overcome.

John Plaskey added three goals and one assist. Keyan McQueen and Derek Richards also had goals for Mercyhurst (12-3).

McQueen made three assists while Colin Greenway chipped in with two assists. Oran Horn added one assist and four caused turnovers.

Greg Weyl led Mercyhurst's defensive effort with five groundballs and three caused turnovers.

Matt Wells started in the cage and finished with one save before William Koester stopped five shots in relief.

SHU jumped ahead with a 5-1 lead in the first half and eventually took a 9-4 edge into halftime.

The visiting Griffins (12-4) pushed back, widening their lead to 12-6 before the Lakers answered with three straight goals -- two by Woodland and one by Plaskey -- to close the gap to 12-9 with 10:30 remaining in the contest.

Seton Hill then scored three of the game's final four goals to hold off the late Mercyhurst surge.

Sean Stanners had four goals and one assist to lead the SHU effort. Bennett Johnson added four goals, Nick Neferis picked up six groundballs and winning goalie Max Eismann totaled 11 saves.
