#10 Women's Lacrosse Slips Up at East Stroudsburg

ERIE, Pa. -- The 10th-ranked Mercyhurst women's lacrosse team dropped a 16-10 decision to East Stroudsburg in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference action on Saturday.

Kristin Anderson and Janelle Williams scored three goals apiece for the Lakers while Taylor Izzo and Carly Zimmerman put in two each. Izzo, the Lakers' top point-getter, also had three assists.

Also for Mercyhurst (8-3, 6-2), Anderson picked up four groundballs and Zimmerman caused three turnovers. Lacey Netti was credited with an assist.

In goal, Gabby Gravino stopped five shots.

East Stroudsburg was led by a mammoth effort in the cage as winning tender Tatyana Petteway finished with 22 saves. Emily Fitzsimmons had four goals and one assist on offense.

The Warriors (11-2, 7-1) built a lead throughout the afternoon -- eventually widening the gap to 14-5. The Lakers answered with a four-goal run -- two goals by Izzo, one by Zimmerman and one by Anderson -- but that rally fizzled as host ESU held on for victory.

Mercyhurst dominated most team statistics -- 39-26 in shots, 20-12 in groundballs and 17-10 in draw controls -- except the final score.

The Lakers will return to action on Tuesday with a 4 p.m. PSAC contest at Indiana (Pa.).
