Men's Ice Hockey Drops Regular-Season Finale

ERIE, Pa. -- The Mercyhurst men's ice hockey team's regular season comes to an end with a 7-1 loss to RIT on Saturday at the Mercyhurst Ice Center.
 
The game marked the last regular season home game for seniors Kyle Dutra, Philippe Drouin and Stephen Hrehoriak.
 
Matthew Whittaker scored the lone goal while Taylor Best and Josh Lammon had assists for Mercyhurst (12-18-4, 11-13-4).
 
Abbott Girduckis scored two goals while Myles Powell, Ryan Kruper, Matt Abt, Garrett McMullen and Shawn Cameron scored one apiece for RIT (13-20-1, 13-15-0)
 
Best scored his tenth goal of the season to get the Lakers on the board first at 2:45 in the first period. Best passed the puck over to Whittaker who took a shot through traffic and beat RIT goaltender Mike Rotolo in the top right corner.
 
Powell scored for RIT to tie the game at 1-1. Abt scored a power play goal to give the Tigers the lead and Kruper extended the Tigers led to 3-1.
 
During the second period Girduckis and McMullen scored two late goals to take a 5-1 lead into the third period.
 
Goalie Brandon Wildung took over in net to start the third period.
 
Three minutes and thirty-six seconds into the third period Abt scored his second goal of the night to make it 6-1 before Cameron scored with two seconds left to end the game at 7-1.
 
The Lakers went 0-for-2 on the power play while the Tigers were 1-for-4.
 
Mercyhurst goaltender Colin DeAugustine saved 23 out of 28 shots while Brandon Wildung stopped 11 out of 13 shots on net in the third period. RIT goalie Mike Rotolo stopped 20 out of 21 shots on net.

The Lakers will return to action when they host an Atlantic Hockey Tournament series on Friday, Saturday and Sunday (if necessary).
