Softball Falls Twice on Day Two of Lenoir-Rhyne Bash

HICKORY, N.C. -- The Mercyhurst softball team suffered a pair of losses on day two of the Lenoir-Rhyne Bear Bash on Saturday. The Lakers lost to Concord, 5-2, and to Virginia Wise, 8-4. Individual recaps are below.

Concord 5, Mercyhurst 2
Emily Hair batted 2-for-4 and Rachel DiBartolomeo homered in the Lakers' loss to Concord. Jamie Ward added a triple and Lindsey Parese doubled.

Anna Cochis went the distance in the pitcher's circle, allowing five runs on seven hits in six innings of work.

The Lakers took the lead in the first inning on a sacrifice fly by Arainna Brone. That 1-0 advantage was short-lived as Concord tacked on two runs in the first.

Concord scored three more times in the third inning, increasing the gap to 5-1.

DiBartolomeo's home run in the sixth accounted for the game's final run.

Virginia Wise 8, Mercyhurst 4
Egelston, Hair, DiBartolomeo and Jolene Teller collected two hits apiece against Virginia Wise.

Egelston (two runs) and Hair (two RBI) had 2-for-3 games while DiBartolomeo went 2-for-4 with a double and run while Teller also went 2-for-4.

Egelston scored in the first inning on a wild pitcher as the Lakers took a 1-0 lead.

Virginia Wise eventually answered with five runs in the third inning and led the rest of the way.

Parese had an RBI single in the fourth for Mercyhurst and Hair ripped a two-run single in the seventh to finish the scoring.
