WEST CHESTER, Pa. -- The Mercyhurst women's basketball team fell to West Chester, 72-53, in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference play on Saturday.
Emilee Norris led the Lakers with 17 points and seven rebounds while
Maria Lapertosa pulled down 10 rebounds.
West Chester was led by Porscha Speller and Katherine Fisher, who both had 14 points. Camden Boehner added 10 points. Mia Hopkins hauled down eight rebounds.
After taking the game's initial lead, the Lakers led the rest of the first quarter after taking a 9-2 lead. Norris had six of the Lakers' first nine points. The host Golden Rams eventually closed their deficit to 15-14 through one period before the teams went into halftime knotted at 22-22.
WCU seized the lead in the third quarter and never surrendered it, pushing the gap to 11 points three occasions before taking a 44-35 lead into the fourth. A 10-0 run in the final period helped West Chester put the game out of reach. The Rams led by as many as 12.
The Lakers were 19 of 48 from the field (39.6 percent) while WCU finished 30 of 66 (45.5). The Rams held a 35-32 edge in rebounds.
Mercyhurst (4-6, 3-1) will return to action on Dec. 18 with a 5:30 p.m. non-conference game at Wheeling Jesuit.
