Women’s Ice Hockey On Short End Of One-Goal Game

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The Mercyhurst women's ice hockey team lost against a College Hockey America opponent for just the second time this season in its 2-1 loss to ninth-ranked Robert Morris Saturday evening at the RMU Island Sports Center.

The Lakers' lone goal was scored by Maggie Knott at 2:02 in the second period. Her goal was sandwiched between RMU scores in the first and third periods.

Vilma Tanskanen and Jennifer MacAskill earned assists on Knott's goal. Kennedy Blair made 19 saves in her second-straight start in goal.

Mercyhurst (4-10-2) held a seven-shot advantage over Robert Morris (28-21) for the game. Despite an 11-7 lead in shots on goal in the opening period, Mercyhurst fell behind after a RMU power-play goal at 6:10.

The Lakers bounced back with Knott's goal in the second period to tie the game. MacAskill worked the puck behind the Robert Morris goal to Tanskanen, who flicked a backhand pass in front to Knott for her fifth goal of the season.

Robert Morris (11-3-2) scored its go-ahead goal at even strength with 6:07 remaining.

Mercyhurst returns to home ice next weekend for a two-game set versus CHA-foe Syracuse Dec. 8-9. Friday's puck drop is set for 6 p.m. with Saturday's start slated for 1 p.m.
