Blasen's Late Goal Helps Lakers Tie PSU

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Mercyhurst women's ice hockey defenseman Molly Blasen scored with 5:08 remaining in regulation to set the Lakers up for a 1-1 draw at Penn State's Pegula Ice Center Saturday afternoon.

The Lakers (2-6-2) led with 35 total shots on goal to the Nittany Lions (2-6-4) 20, including a 17-7 advantage in the third period.

Penn State's only goal of the game came at 6:31 in the second period when Christi Vetter scored at even-strength to give Penn State the lead.

The Lakers peppered PSU-goalie Daniela Paniccia with shots in the the third period and Blasen finally got one past her at 14:52. Her first goal of the season went above Pannicia's shoulders and just beneath the crossbar. Alexa Vasko earned her team-leading sixth assist on the play while Vilma Tanskanen extended her point streak to five games with the second assist.

Mercyhrust recorded the only shot on goal in the overtime period.

Sarah McDonnell stopped 19 shots in the second of back-to-back starts in goal. Brooke Hartwick led all skaters with seven shots on goal with Sam Isbell close behind at six.

The Lakers committed just one penalty late in the first period and killed the ensuing Nittany Lions' power play. Mercyhurst's power play unit went 0-for-3.

The Lakers return home for their first home games in over a month when they host sixth-ranked Minnesota at Merychurst Ice Center next weekend, Nov. 10-11.
