UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- The Mercyhurst men's hockey team took down 17th-ranked Penn State, 7-4, in front of a sold-out crowd of 5,982 spectators on Friday at the Pegula Ice Arena.

Brandon Wildung made 50 saves in net for Mercyhurst (3-2-2).

Les Lancaster finished with two goals and two assists while both Barach and Charbonneau added one goal and two assists.
Zach Todd added two goals,
Joshua Lammon chipped in with one goal and one assist, and
Jack Riley and
Taylor Best finished with two assists each.
Nathan Ferriero also had an assist.

Andrew Sturtz, Erik Autio, Nikita Pavlychev and Sam Sternschein scored for Penn State (4-5-0).
The Lakers took a 3-0 lead in the first period, starting with Charbonneau's third goal of the season -- just 13 seconds into the game. Barach and Riley had assists.

Lammon and Todd scored within 1:31 of each other as the Lakers took a three-goal lead.. Lancaster assisted both goals while Best and Ferriero tallied assists, respectively.

Mercyhurst was unable to get into the first intermission with its 3-0 lead as Penn State struck for two goals within 28 seconds. Those tallies were put in by Sturtz and Autio.

During the second period, Todd put in his second goal of the night with assists from Lammon and Best before the Nittany Lions came back with a power-play goal from Pavlychev to pull back to 4-3.

Halfway through the second, Mercyhurst went back up 5-3 with a goal from Barach. Riley and Charbonneau had assists.

Penn State scored late in the second period to come back within one goal for the third time in the game. Sternschein recorded the goal.

Lancaster sealed the deal with two-power play goals in the third period to push the Laker lead back to three. Both goals were assisted by Charbonneau and Barach

Mercyhurst went 2-for-4 on the power play while Penn State went 1-for-5.

In a relief effort, Penn State goaltender Chris Funkey stopped 20 out of 24 shots on net. MU chased starter Peyton Jones with three goals on five shots.
