MILLERSVILLE, Pa. -- The Mercyhurst women's tennis team claimed a 9-0 victory over Millersville on Friday.
The Lakers swept doubles action, outpointing the Mustangs, 24-2, before outscoring their hosts, 72-4, in singles action.
Adrianna Jeffress and
Kayla Frost got Mercyhurst its first point with an 8-0 sweep over Megan Rovenolt and Haley Nauman at No. 2 doubles.
Then came a pair of 8-1 victories for the Lakers at first and third doubles.
Saioa Gomez de Segura and
Adina Spahalic won the top-tier match against Katina Jones and Corinne Grohoski while Ivona Plecvic and
Athina Tsagkaraki bested Victoria Hanus and Kelley Hershey at No. 3.
Tsagkaraki earned MU's first point in singles play, taking a 6-0, 6-0, win against Weaver at sixth singles. Spahalic then clinched the win for Mercyhurst at fifth singles against Hanus, 6-1, 6-0.
Jeffress added a 6-0, 6-0, win of her own at third singles. She defeated Rovenolt.
Gomez de Segura, Frost and Plecevic had wins at Nos. 1, 2 and 4, respectively. Gomez de Segura won against Jones, 6-1, 6-0; Frost handled Grohoski, 6-0, 6-1 and Plecevin was victorious against Nauman, 6-0, 6-1.
The Lakers will return to action on Saturday with a match at Shippensburg.
