Box Score EDINBORO, Pa. – The Mercyhurst volleyball team fell in three sets in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference play to Edinboro on Saturday. The Lakers fall to a 7-15 overall record while slipping to a 2-9 overall record. The Fighting Scots grabbed sets one (25-20), two (25-17), and three (25-19).
The Lakers where led by
Alyssa Kling who posted 12 kills, and two blocks.
Shelby Chesko and
Alyssa Zirnheld both contributed six kills apiece.
Makayla Mollé led assists with 14, while
Abby Rose contributed 10, Rose also had a pair of aces.
Edinboro was led by Cierah Jackson with 11 kills, Sydney Thrathen added seven and Tessa Sikora contributed five.
Edinboro grabbed set one 25-20 jumping out to an early 6-3 which they used to play from the front and capture the set. The Lakers only lead of the set is when they claimed the sets initial point.
During the second set Mercyhurst fell 25-17 The Fighting Scots ran out to an early 8-3 lead which they held through the entirety of the set. Mercyhurst shrank Edinboro's lead to as little as four when they scored two sets of two points to trail 15-11.
Edinboro claimed an early 4-0 lead, the Fighting Scots scored ten of the first fourteen points to lead 10-4. The Lakers scored eight of the next fourteen points to trail 16-13. The Lakers would have a three-point sprint to bring the Fighting Scots lead to as little as 20-18, this would be the closest the Lakers would come to taking the lead.
The Lakers will play next on the 27
th at 7 pm against East Stroudsburg in PSAC play.
