Box Score WENTZVILLE, Miss. – The Mercyhurst women's ice hockey team had six different goal scorers, five of which netted their first goals of the season, in a 6-1 win over Lindenwood Saturday to earn its first win of the season.
The Lakers' (1-4-1) six goals are the most by the team since a 6-0 shut out at Penn State last season on Jan. 27.
Megan Korzack got the scoring started with her first career goal as a Laker halfway through the first period. About a minute later,
Molly Blasen scored to double the Laker lead on a blast from the point.
Mercyhurst continued the onslaught with three more goals in the second period by
Samantha Fieseler at even strength, and
Maggie Knott on the power play, and
Callie Paddock with another even strength score to extend the Laker lead to 5-0.
Lindenwood (1-4-1) finally scored five minutes into the third period, but the Lakers tacked on one more in the waning seconds by
Brooke Hartwick.
Mercyhurst held a huge advantage in shots on goal with 48 compared to Lindenwood's 15.
Kennedy Blair earned her first win in the net for the Lakers, stopping 14 of 15 shots.
The Lakers head to Hamilton, N.Y. for a non-conference set with Colgate on Oct. 20-21. Game time on Friday is 6:00 p.m. with Saturday's contest beginning at 3:00 p.m.
