ERIE, Pa. -- The Mercyhurst men's ice hockey team fell 3-1 to Air Force during Atlantic Hockey play on Friday at the Mercyhurst Ice Center.
Sophomore
Matthew Whittaker had the Lakers' lone goal while junior
Nathan Ferriero and
Zach Todd tallied assists for Mercyhurst (8-11-1, 7-7-1).
Trevor Stone scored two goals while Jordan Himley scored one goal for Air Force (12-6-3, 9-3-1).
After a scoreless first period, Air Force netted three goals during the second to take a 3-0 lead. Stone got the Falcons on the board with a power-play goal. Then, Himley scored the second AF goal before Stone tallied the third goal late in the period.
During the third period, Whittaker capitalized on the power play to get the Lakers on the board with 2:41 remaining in the contest.
The Lakers went 1-for-6 on the power play while the Falcons were 1-for-2.
Freshman goaltender
Colin DeAugustine saved 16 out of 19 shots on net for Mercyhurst while Shane Starrett stopped 30 out of 31 shots for Air Force.
The two teams will return to action at the Mercyhurst Ice Center on Saturday at 7:05 p.m.
