Women's Ice Hockey Travels To Happy Valley

The Mercyhurst women's ice hockey team travels to State College, Pa. to take on Penn State in a College Hockey America (CHA) two-game series this weekend. The games will be played at Pegula Ice Arena on Friday, Jan. 27 at 6 p.m. and Saturday, Jan. 28 at 2 p.m.
 
The Matchup
-Mercyhurst leads the all-time series 13-3-2
-Both teams played to a series split back in November at Mercyhurst Ice Center. The Lakers won the first matchup 6-4 with the Nittany Lions bouncing back to a 3-2 win the next day.
-Penn State sits in third in the CHA standings with 12 points. Mercyhurst trails in fourth place with nine points.
 
Scouting the Nittany Lions
-Penn State has a 6-15-5 overall record with a 5-5-2 mark in CHA play.
-The Nittany Lions have a 2-7-3 record at Pegula Ice Arena this season compared to a 4-8-2 road record.
-Penn State went 1-0-1 last weekend on home ice against R.I.T., winning 3-0 on Friday with a 4-4 tie on Saturday.
-Laura Bowman and Amy Petersen make a dynamic duo for PSU. Bowman leads the team with a conference-high 15 goals and 26 points, while Petersen isn't far behind with 11 goals and 22 points.
-Freshmen Brooke Madsen (5 goals, 12 assists, 17 points) and Daniela Paniccia (5-8-2 record, 2.87 goals-against average, .909 save-percentage) have had productive rookie campaigns.
 
Laker Outlook
-Mercyhurst is 8-16-2 overall and 4-8-2 in conference.
-The Lakers are the CHA's best in the faceoff circle this season, winning over 55% of draws.
-Mercyhurst went to overtime twice last weekend against first-place Robert Morris. The Colonials won the first match 2-1 on Friday. The second game on Saturday ended up in a 3-3 tie.
-Senior defenseman Jillian Skinner is tied for fourth in the conference in power play points this season. She has eight assists and one goal that she scored last weekend in the Lakers 2-1 OT loss.
-Sam Isbell is third in the CHA in scoring among rookies with 11 points. Fellow freshman Maggie Knott is just behind her in fourth place with ten points.
