CALIFORNIA, Pa. -- The Mercyhurst women's basketball team will visit sixth-ranked California (Pa.) for a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference matchup on Saturday at 3 p.m. The teams are currently tied for second place in the PSAC West Division.
The Lakers (16-2, 11-1) have won three straight contests while reaching their highest win total since 1996-97, when the program finished 17-9. Mercyhurst also has the program's second-best start through 18 games (Mercyhurst was 17-1 in 1988-89).
Angela Heintz leads Mercyhurst in several categories, including points per game (16.4), rebounds (6.9), assists (6.4) and steals (1.8). She ranks second in the PSAC in assists, fifth in scoring and ninth in field-goal percentage (.437).
Natalie Piaggesi, the PSAC's top shot-blocker with 2.1 swats per game, also averages 16.1 points and 6.8 rebounds. She rates seventh in the PSAC in scoring and third in field-goal percentage (.580).
California (17-1, 11-1), which has won its last six contests, possesses the No. 2 and No. 3 scorers in the PSAC: Miki Glenn (19.3) and Seairra Barrrett (18.2).
Glenn also leads the conference in assists (7.1) and steals (3.7) while rating third in free-throw percentage (.869) and sixth in field-goal percentage (.470). Barrett ranks second in field-goal percentage (.621).
