Volleyball Loses to UPJ on Road

Johnstown Pa.- The Mercyhurst volleyball team lost September 30th, against University of PIttsburgh Johnstown. The Lakers lost the first three sets of the game dropping their season record to (9-5, 2-1 in PSAC). The Panthers won their sets with scores of (25-16) set one, (25-16) set two and (25-17) in set three.

The Lakers put together 23 kills as a team throughout the three games, Shelby Chesko lead the category with seven, while Lauren Kenny finished the match with six. Defensively the Lakers had 43 digs as a team, with Sarah Wergzyn recording 11 of them while Samantha Giardina finished second in the category with nine. The Lakers also had ten block assist throughout the match Haley Adams recorded three, Freda Ireigba and Lauren Kenny both recorded two. Shelby Chesko, Sarah Puckett, and Sarah Wergzyn all recorded one block assist.

The Lakers were unable to convert their efforts into victory as the Panthers recorded 34 kills, 12 service aces, eight block assists and one solo block with this win the Panther push their record to (9-5, 2-1 in PSAC).

The Lakers will play on October 1st against Lock Haven University on the road at 1:00 P.M.
