ERIE, Pa. -- The fourth-ranked Mercyhurst men's lacrosse team defeated 18th-ranked Indianapolis, 9-7, in an Eastern College Athletic Conference Tournament semifinal on Friday at Tullio Field.
Kurtis Woodland was the Lakers' leading point-getter, finishing with three points and one assist.
Connor Enright and
Derek Richards added two goals and one assist each for Mercyhurst (15-2), which is the top-seed in the ECAC Tournament.
Sam Crusha and
Keyan McQueen had one goal and one assist apiece.
James Crowe and
Oran Horn made assists.
Winning goaltender
Matt Wells totaled seven saves for the Lakers.
Shane Endres led the defense with four groundballs and three caused turnovers.
Ryan Vitale picked up four groundballs and
Greg Weyl caused three turnovers.
Mercyhurst tallied five straight goals, including two by Woodland and two by Enright, to build a 6-2 lead before four-seed Indianapolis struck back with three straight goals to trim its deficit to one. The Lakers answered with two goals; the Greyhounds never pulled within one again.
Shawn Kimble led the UIndy attack with three goals and one assist. Matthew Johnson had one goal and an assist. Goalie Jarod Kimble finished with seven saves.
The Lakers will meet 20th-ranked Lindenwood in Sunday's final, which will take place at noon at Tullio Field.
