WEST LAWN, Pa. --
Brendan Cox had a three-hit game for Mercyhurst during the 18th-ranked Laker baseball team's 6-3 loss to No. 2 Millersville in an NCAA Atlantic Regional matchup on Sunday at Ted Palka Park.
Cam Knott was the losing pitcher, giving up three runs on four hits in 5 1/3 innings. He had six strikeouts and three walks.
The Lakers had four extra-base hits on offense, including a home run by
Sabatino DiNardo III.
Hank Morrison tripled and
Chris Gonzalez and
Jimmy Latona added doubles.
For Millersville, Chas McCormick had a 3-for-4 game while Ben Snyder was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI.
Cordell Shannon was the winning pitcher, allowing one run on five hits while registering four strikeouts and one walk.
The Marauders took a 1-0 lead in the first inning, scoring on a double play, before Mercyhurst evened the score at 1-all in the sixth.
Daniel Elliott hit a sacrifice fly to plate Morrison, who had reached base with a triple.
Millersville took the lead for good in its half of the sixth, scoring four runs during the frame. The inning was highlighted by Snyder's two-run double.
Down 5-1, the Lakers answered with DiNardo's two-run homer in the eighth. Millersville then pushed the advantage to 6-3 in its half of the eighth before Marauder reliever Mike Mock worked a 1-2-3 ninth to earn the save.
With the loss, Mercyhurst (42-13) drops to the regional's losers' bracket and will play an elimination game later on Sunday against the winner of the afternoon matchup between East Stroudsburg and Shepherd.
