ERIE, Penn. – After taking home gold in the lightweight eight event at Dad Vail Regatta last weekend, the Lakers moved further into the top ten ranks in the latest USRowing Collegiate Poll. #9 Mercyhurst currently sits between #8 Dartmouth College and #10 Georgetown University. The top five from last week's poll saw little change with Yale University leading the top of the charts, followed by Columbia University ranked second, Princeton University in third, Cornell University in fourth, and University of Pennsylvania ranked fifth.
Of the fifteen currently ranked teams, only eight will compete at the Intercollegiate Rowing Association (IRA) Championships in West Windsor, New Jersey June 3 - 5. These teams include Yale, Columbia, Princeton, Cornell, Pennsylvania, #6 United States Naval Academy, #7 Harvard University, and #9 Mercyhurst University.
"To be seeded among the top ten is a true testament to how hard the men have worked on land and on the water," said assistant coach Josh Karney. "We're certainly excited to see how IRA's will play out as we wrap up this season."
Following graduation this weekend, the Lakers will continue training in preparation for their two most competitive races of the season. Be sure to follow the program in their final weeks of the season @HurstRowing on Twitter.
