ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- The fifth-ranked Mercyhurst women's lacrosse team defeated Roberts Wesleyan, 15-10, in a non-conference matchup on Wednesday. With 10 consecutive wins, the Lakers broke the program's previous record of nine, which was set three times in 2008, 2009 and 2010.
Kristin Anderson had four goals and one assist was Mercyhurst's leading point-getter.
Olivia Keirn and
Carly Zimmerman added three goals apiece for MU (11-1).
Also for the Lakers,
Janelle Williams scored two goals while
Taylor Izzo,
Emily Koestler and
Taylor Santiago put in one each. Izzo and
Emily Gebhardt made three assists each.
Anderson led Mercyhurst in draw controls, picking up six, while Koestler and Zimmerman had four apiece. Gebhardt and ZImmerman caused two turnovers each and leading groundballer
Christa Morrison had two GBs.
In the cage, winning goaltender
Gabby Gravino registered 11 saves.
With the contest tied at 2-2 in the first half, the Lakers enjoyed a 4-1 stretch to take the lead for good.
Mercyhurst held a 7-4 lead at intermission and then used a 7-1 run in the second half to put the game out of reach.
Loren Dunn led host Roberts Wesleyan with three goals. Goalie Shannon Knapp had 18 saves.
The Lakers outshot the Redhawks, 42-26, and held a 22-6 advantage in draw controls.
Mercyhurst will return to action on Saturday with an 11 a.m. Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference home contest against 20th-ranked East Stroudsburg.
