SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. --
Carly Zimmerman scored the game-winning goal in overtime, lifting the eighth-ranked Mercyhurst women's lacrosse team to a 10-9 victory over Slippery Rock in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference action on Wednesday.
Kristin Anderson had three goals while Zimmerman,
Olivia Keirn and
Janelle Williams put in two each for the Lakers (14-2, 10-1), who trailed by three goals in the second half.
Emily Gebhardt added one goal and three assists,
Grace Lawson made two assists and
Taylor Izzo dished one assist for Mercyhurst.
Defensively, winning goaltender
Gabby Gravino totaled 12 saves and five groundballs.
Emily Koestler picked up four groundballs while Anderson and Zimmerman controlled four draws apiece.
Slippery Rock (8-7, 4-6) led 7-4 with 15:29 to go before the visiting Lakers stormed back. Gebhardt pulled MU to a 7-6 score before two goals apiece by Anderson and Zimmerman pushed Mercyhurst into a 9-7 lead.
The Rock answered with two goals in the final five minutes of regulation, forcing overtime. Zimmerman scored 2:25 into extra-time.
Erin Wilcox was SRU's leading scorer, finishing with four goals. Goalie Jordan Wagner stopped nine shots.
Slippery Rock outshot Mercyhurst, 28-24, however the Lakers dominated draw controls, 14-7.
The Lakers will finish their regular season on Saturday with an 11 a.m. contest against Lock Haven. A win would allow Mercyhurst to claim a share of the PSAC regular-season championship and the top-seed in the PSAC Tournament
