Second-Half Surge Sends #7 Women's Lax Past Shippensburg, 17-6; Lakers Tie Program Record For Consecutive Wins

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. -- Carly Zimmerman and Kristin Anderson scored six and five goals, respectively, as the seventh-ranked Mercyhurst women's lacrosse team defeated Shippensburg, 17-6, in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference game on Saturday. With the win, the Lakers equaled the program record for consecutive wins; Merchurst has won nine straight games on three other occasions (2008, 2009, 2010).

Grace Lawson added three goals while Amy Hoffman, Morgan Parker and Janelle Williams chipped in with one goal apiece for the Lakers (10-1, 7-0), who trailed 4-3 at halftime before going on a 12-goal run in the second period.

Taylor Izzo made six assists, Emily Gebhardt dished two assists, and Williams and Kyla Keefe had one assist each.

Kristina Roberti finished with three groundballs and two caused turnovers while winning goalie Gabby Gravino stopped six shots.

Mercyhurst never led in the first time, but trailed on four different occasions -- 1-0, 2-1, 3-2 and 4-3 -- before pulling even each time.

Zimmerman scored the first three goals of MU's 12-goal streak. She tied the contest at 4-4 just 1:51 into the second half. Then, she scored twice and Anderson put in one goal -- all in a matter of 30 seconds -- as the Lakers went up, 7-4, and cruised from there.

Ali Harclerode had two goals and one assist to lead Shippensburg (3-7, 0-6).

Ship goalies Ally Frymoywer (9) and Aly Danick (2) combined for 11 saves.

Mercyhurst outshot Shippensburg, 38-17, and held a 19-6 advantage on draws.

The Lakers will return to action on Wednesday with a 4 p.m. non-conference game at Roberts Wesleyan.
