Baseball Takes Down Notre Dame (Ohio), 14-1

ERIE, Pa. -- The Mercyhurst baseball team claimed a 14-1 decision over Notre Dame (Ohio) in non-conference action on Tuesday at the Mercyhurst Baseball Field.

Sabatino DiNardo III led the Laker offense, going 3-for-3 with two doubles, one home run and three RBI. He scored twice. Hank Morrison added a 2-for-4 game with a run and three RBI.

Also for Mercyhurst, Jimmy Latona batted 2-for-4 with a double, run and RBI. Brendan Cox and Austin Alonge scored two runs apiece. Dominic Cecere and Steve McCaw added pinch-hit doubles.

Jim Solano was the winning pitcher, allowing one run on four hits in five innings of work. He recorded four strikeouts and two walks.

Relief pitchers Chris Vallimont (2 IP), Matthew Keating (1 IP) and Jake Collins (1 IP) combined for four shutout innings. Vallimont had three strikeouts and one walk.

The Lakers took a four-run lead through three innings after scoring twice in the second and twice in the third. Morrison had a two-run single in the third.

After NDC pulled within 4-1 in the fifth, the Lakers rattled off the game's final 10 runs.

DiNardo had a two-run homer in the sixth. Then, during a five-run seventh, Morrison had an RBI single, Daniel Elliott and Cameron Balego smacked RBI groundouts, and DiNardo and Latona smashed RBI doubles.

In the eighth, Dan Karstedt ripped an RBI single before McCaw plated two with his two-bagger.

The Lakers (29-9) will return to action this weekend with a four-game Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference series against California (Pa.). That will begin in Erie on Friday and finished in California on Saturday.
