CALIFORNIA, Pa. – The Mercyhurst University softball team dropped a pair at tenth ranked California (Pa.) Saturday afternoon. The Lakers fell 7-3 in game, while dropping a 6-1 decision in game two.
Rachel DiBartolomeo drove in all four runs on the day.
Game One | Mercyhurst 3, #10 California 7
The Lakers trailed 7-0 through five innings before DiBartolomeo blasted a three-run shot over the center field wall, scoring
Cassandra Egelston and
Ellie Dougher. For DiBartolomeo, it was her third homerun in two days and eighth of the season.
With Mercyhurst behind by four, 7-3, in the top of the seventh,
Julia Lang led off the inning with a walk but, then, Vulcan's starting pitcher Alex Sagl (13-1) got the Lakers out 1-2-3 to cap off her 13
th win of the season.
California (Pa.) outhit the Lakers 9-3 in game one.
Allison Yule recorded a double down the right field line in the fourth inning, while Dougher had the other Laker hit.
Carly Konopka (3-2) received the loss for Mercyhurst, pitching one and one-thirds inning, while
Portia McBride came on in relief with four and two-thirds innings of work.
Game Two | Mercyhurst 1, #10 California 6
With the Vulcans leading 2-0 early on, Mercyhurst was able to cut the lead in half in the top of the third, when DiBartolomeo singled up the middle, scoring
Shannon Minihane from third.
California (Pa.) would answer the lone Lakers' run in the bottom half of the inning, scoring four runs on three hits.
Meghan Uher (9-0) of Cal held Mercyhurst to just three hits, while
Heather Nye started (3-7) and received the loss for the Lakers.
Mercyhurst will travel to Edinboro tomorrow for a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Western Division doubleheader starting at 1:00 p.m.
