Baseball Resumes, Finishes 7-0 Shutout Of Gannon

ERIE, Pa. -- The Mercyhurst baseball team finished a 7-0 shutout of cross-town rival Gannon in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference West Division play on Wednesday after resuming a suspended contest that began on Sunday. The Lakers led 5-0 in the fifth inning before Wednesday's action.

The Laker offense collected five doubles and five stolen bases en route to the win

Hank Morrison led the way, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases and two RBI. Collin Fantaskey went 2-for-4 with three runs, one double and one stolen base.

Cameron Balego added a 2-for-3 game with two doubles and one run, Chris Gonzalez batted 2-for-5 with a double, and Austin Alonge doubled and scored two runs.

Starting pitcher Matthew Minnick three four shutout innings -- all on Sunday. He gave up three hits while recording six strikeouts and two walks. Chris Vallimont tossed two scoreless innings, striking out three batters, before Jamie Lauria finished the contest with one scoreless inning and one strikeout.

On Sunday, the Lakers scored twice in the third inning -- on RBI doubles by Alonge and Gonzalez -- before tacking on three in the fourth, when Morrison had a two-run single and Daniel Elliott smacked an RBI single.

When the contest resumed on Sunday, Gonzalez had an RBI single in the fifth inning. Sabatino DiNardo III hit an RBI single in the sixth.

For Gannon (22-11, 10-6), Dominic Mori batted 2-for-3 as the Golden Knights finished with five hits. Joey Colosi was the losing pitcher.

Mercyhurst (24-9, 12-4) will be in action next this weekend when it meets Pittsburgh-Johnston for a four-game PSAC West series, beginning in Erie on Friday and finishing in Johnstown on Saturday.
